i woke up every morning and put on my shirt from the night before to join up with another and we'd jog across the shore we'd throw our feet around the sandy bend and with a tired and sweaty face i'd look out across the water a field of glass was in its place soon the kids would be waking up soon the glass would become waves but as the morning fog seeped through the trees we drank it in our throats were dry from jogging our eyes were dry from sleep everything was dry and still like it would never go away

give your hands and feet to me let me use them for an hour just to walk around and touch things i've been bound for so long that i've forgotten what it means to get up, stretch my legs, breathe scattered breaths between the reeds and i'll sit here for an hour cause it's all that i need then it's back to being paralyzed, thinking of pretty things i notice the way your eyes open and close

about

This album was written and recorded between autumn 2010 and spring 2011, mostly in a dorm room, and mostly late at night and into the wee small hours over a winter where I didn't really do or think about a whole lot else. After releasing it in fall 2011 I avoided it for a long time because I had a hard time hearing anything in it besides how frustrated and anxious I was that year, but in coming back to it recently I was kinda surprised to realize that it sounded like music made by a different person than who I am now, and that I was able to enjoy it on its own terms. I had been making music for a long time before this album, but it's the first thing I made that I would describe as "personal," even though the songs weren't really about anything or anyone in particular. I think I was trying to make music that felt like coming in from the snow.
